I have never eaten at a Chick Fil A. In fact, living in Southern California we really didn’t have the option to since until recently, there weren’t any around. This establishment drew much media attention earlier in the year for reasons other than their food. But somehow, the buzz created enough attention that one popped up about 5 minutes away from my house.
So finally, the other day, we decided to try their famously well-liked chicken. Since we are gluten conscious now, I was concerned about what we would be able to eat on the menu. I was surprised to see multiple gluten-free options (although, they are not marketed as such). They have a selection of lovely fresh salads topped with the choice of either grilled or breaded chicken. And for kids, they offer traditional nuggets with the breading as well as grilled, breading-free nuggets! My son was thrilled as he’s never been a fan of breaded nuggets (I know, he’s weird for an 8 year old. He’d rather eat a salad that anything fried.)
They even have an enticing carrot and raisin side salad as well as other gluten-free friendly options. We were all pleasantly surprised that they offered such a variety on the menu. And the service was super friendly and accommodating. They even came out to the dining area to see if we needed any more napkins or ketchup (for the waffle potato fries…yum). Dare I say, the employees seemed genuinely sincere and enjoyed their employment! This is rare in the fast food business in SoCal.
So there you have it. Eating out doesn’t have to be a daunting task when you are gluten-free. There are places that offer options that are tasty.
I’ll keep you posted as we find more.
