Family Fun Events for June 2012
It seems that always hear about fun local things to do with the family when it’s too late to change my existing plans. So here are a couple of events you can plan ahead for (they take place in early June).
Jet Propulsion Laboratory Open House
Saturday, June 9th & Sunday, June 10th 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The annual Open House at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., welcomes over 38,000 visitors. This year’s theme is “Great Journeys,” inviting visitors to share in the wonders of space through high-definition and 3-D videos, live demonstrations, interactions with scientists and engineers, and a first look at JPL’s new Earth Science Center.
The following items are not permitted at this NASA/JPL Event: weapons, explosives, incendiary devices, dangerous instruments, alcohol, illegal drugs, pets, segways, and all types of skates including skateboards. No bags, backpacks or ice chests are allowed, with the exception of small purses and diaper bags.
Your entry on NASA/JPL property constitutes your agreement that you, your vehicles and your personal belongings are subject to inspection.
JPL is located at 4800 Oak Grove Drive in Pasadena, off the 210 (Foothill) Freeway at the Berkshire Avenue/Oak Grove Drive exit. Parking is available near the Oak Grove main gate and the eastern boundary of JPL, accessible from Windsor Avenue via the Arroyo Boulevard exit off the 210 Freeway.
Stage Coach Inn Museum Pioneer Jamboree (Newbury Park)
Saturday, June 9th 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The original Stagecoach Inn, called the Grand Union Hotel, was built in 1876 at the southwest corner of what is now Ventu Park Road and the Ventura Freeway.
The Conejo Valley Historical Society will be presenting a Pioneer Jamobree on the grounds of the historic museum complex. You can learn to pan for gold, churn butter, make toys, use pioneer kitchen tools to squeeze lemons for lemonade, learn pioneer games and much more.
The admission fee is $6 for adults and $4 for children. Kids under age 3 are free.
We just went to the Stagecoach Inn for a birthday party and I have to say it was a lot of fun watching the kids learn about pioneer life.

Screwtape Letters on Stage in Thousand Oaks!
THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS is a smart, provocative and wickedly funny theatrical adaptation of the C.S. Lewis novel about spiritual warfare from a demon’s point of view.
The play, set in an eerily stylish office in hell, follows the clever scheming of Satan’s chief psychiatrist, Screwtape, as he entices a human ‘patient’ toward damnation. In this topsy-turvy, morally inverted universe God is the “Enemy” and the Devil is “Our Father below.” The stakes are high as human souls are hell’s primary source of food.
DATE: Sat., Jan. 14 at 4pm & 8pm, Sun., Jan. 15 at 3pm
PLACE: Civic Arts Plaza, Kavli Theatre, 2100 Thousand Oaks Blvd, Thousand Oaks
